Comments

Commenting in Canopy is a key tool for collaboration and for peer review/QA.

Commenting is supported in many different locations within Canopy. Wherever you see a comment icon

Key features

Canopy’s current commenting implementation supports a number of features, including:

  • Threaded comments: start a thread, and continue the conversation on the thread level.

  • Comment on a field/section. This is the default way to comment on an entire field or indeed a entire section.

  • Comment on text selections (Selection-based commenting)

  • Single click comment resolution (and reopening)

  • Comment notifications

Threads

Threads can be created by any user that has at least “Read” access to a given view.

A new comment thread is started by clicking on the comment icon. This will bring into focus the “New Thread” button on the right hand side of the view you’re on.

You can then start adding content.

One a comment thread has been started, other users can continue the conversation (or start new threads).

A user can edit or delete their own comments. The user that created a thread can delete the entire thread.

Resolving comments can be done with a single click.

On certain views, comment counts will be provided to help users track how many comments remain “open”. Once all comments are resolved, counters will be updated to show the total resolved count.

Comment threads can be unresolved by clicking on the “resolved” label.

Selection based commenting (New in 3.11!)

Selecting specific text and commenting on it allows users to provide precise feedback or observations on your report content and write-ups. This is supported on rich text fields (when in read mode; not edit mode). Simply highlight text within a field, and click the “New Thread” button that appears:

Notifications

Whenever a new comment is added, the “owner” of the object will be notified. These notifications will be sent via the in-app notifications or via email (if enabled).

Where can comments be used?

Wherever you see the comment icon, a new comment thread can be started. Some example locations include:

  • Reports

  • Findings

  • Assets

  • Methodologies

  • And much more

With each of these views you will be able to comment on either a section, a field or on a text-selection (rich text fields only).

The following screenshot shows an example of a report with a new thread started on a selection of text within the “overview” rich text field:

Note the comment counts for Open and Resolved. This helps users focus on their QA tasks more easily.
